Willemstad, June 2026 - Over the past few weeks, Curaçao has been completely taken over by the Blue Wave. As the smallest island ever to compete in the World Cup, Curaçao has captured the world's attention. The entire island has been glowing in bright blue, with waving flags and proud, smiling faces.
During the Germany–Curaçao match, we may have lost on paper, but in our hearts we won that night. In Curaçao's very first World Cup match, Livano Comenencia scored a historic goal against Germany in the 21st minute, an unforgettable milestone for our island.
In the Ecuador–Curaçao match, our outstanding goalkeeper Eloy Room set a new World Cup record with 15 saves, adding yet another remarkable achievement to Curaçao's football history.
The tournament concluded with a 2–0 victory for Ivory Coast in the final match against Curaçao. Although our World Cup journey has now come to an end, the pride and unity it created will remain long after the final whistle. Throughout this tournament, Curaçao made history, inspired millions, and showed the world what our small island is capable of.
Our national football team made us proud every single day, bringing the entire island together through the Blue Wave. People from all over the world visited Curaçao to experience this incredible atmosphere firsthand.
This just proves that Curaçao is gaining popularity all over the world, which benefits our tourism sector.
Although Curaçao's World Cup journey has come to an end, it has been an unforgettable month for our island. Together, we made history.
